Project implementation

STAGE I: June 2018 - March 2020
The first stage of implementation of the project comprised wide ranging preparatory works, necessary for developing the inventory, carried out within two Old Town churches: the former parish church (now cathedral) of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist and the former Grey Friar’s church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Wide ranging DOCUMENTATION works as well as BIBLIOGRAPHIC and ARCHIVE queries were carried out; they brought large quantities of new data on materials, techniques, original location and history of particular historic objects. Also ANALITYCAL and INTERPRETATION works were commenced, that led to entirely novel findings concerning architectural transformations of buildings as well as attribution, dating and function of numerous objects of furnishing and decor.  The timetables, methodology, current works, examination results, etc. were systematically reported on and discussed during regular working meetings of the team.

 STAGE II:  March 2020 - March 2021
The second stage of the Inventory covered further INVENTORY and DOCUMENTATION works on historic objects in St John’s church, in the District Museum and in Diocesan Museum in Toruń. Carried out were ANALYTICAL works (concerning the issues of style, historic value and provenance) as well as NON-INVASIVE and INSTRUMENTAL examination of historic artefacts. The ARCHIVAL and ICONOGRAPHIC queries were continued.

 STAGE III since April 2021
